About Therapy
Origin: < Gk, psyche-- breath, spirit, soul, mind;
Origin: < Gk therapeía--healing

I hold a M. A. in Counseling, am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with 20 years of experience.
My approach to counseling is eclectic in that I use approaches from several different theoretical perspectives. I may employ a variety of techniques to create a therapy plan tailored to your needs.
My style is interactive. As you steer your course, I will provide navigational support regarding roadblocks you may encounter.  We will examine the baggage that you carry and determine how to lighten your load. Letting go of pain that no longer serves a purpose will help with that lightening. As author/therapist, Barbara Sher says "the best solutions are the most forgiving".
I respect your journey and the lessons that you have learned along the way.  Humor and metaphor are tools that I often use.  I will listen not only to your spoken words but also to what is unspoken.  I will offer my perspective and will most likely challenge some of your thoughts.  We will examine your hopes and work out creative ways for you to get closer to becoming your authentic self.

In my practice, I value working with people of all genders, sexual orientations, races, ages, spiritualities, religions, differences of life situation, and background.  Telephone sessions are available for some issues.

I've successfully worked with individuals, couples, families and groups in areas that include:

Individuals who feel stuck, depressed, anxious or stressed

Couples who seek to enrich their relationships, work through intimacy issues, have parenting issues or are contemplating divorce

Individuals who are suffering a loss

Individuals not experiencing enough satisfaction or pleasure in life and want to find joy

Individuals who seek to live more intentionally at any age

Children who are depressed, struggle with bullying issues and/or struggle with body image

Women's groups for a variety of ages--young adults to seniors

People-pleasers (I have written THE PLEASURE IS MINE, Overcoming the Need to Please, see Publications to help my clients)

Anyone who wants to change habits, increase intimacy with themselves and others and boost their sense of self

"People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering."  --St. Augustine
